Work Week: 5 days (Monday through Friday) – 40 hrs. /week

Work Hours: 0830 hrs. to 1715 hrs. (with 45 minutes lunch & prayer break)

Working Relationships

External:

Local communites in and around Manchar Lake, community-based organizations (CBOs), village organizations (VOs), women’s groups, local government representatives, relevant line departments (Agriculture, Irrigation, Forest, Fisheries, Livestock, etc.), local civil society organizations, schools, and other stakeholders relevant to community mobilization and awareness.

Internal:

Regional Head, site technical teams, Project Management Unit (PMU), and other WWF-Pakistan projects operating in the area.

Project Summary

Recharge Pakistan is a cornerstone of the Government of Pakistan’s vision — as highlighted in its updated 2021 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) — to leverage natural systems to enhance Pakistan’s resilience to climate change with the goal of reducing flood and drought risk across the Indus Basin. The project invests in Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) and Green Infrastructure (GI) interventions (including flood protection embankments, dispersal embankments, gabion bunds, retention areas and recharge basins) at four sites across the Indus Basin, including Manchar Lake, Dadu. These interventions aim to reduce the impacts of increasingly severe floods and droughts on vulnerable communities and ecosystems while strengthening local resilience.

At Manchar Lake, activities will focus on watershed restoration, channel desil6ng, EbA practices, and community-based resilience measures. Local communities are central to the project’s success; therefore, effective mobilization, participation, and empowerment are critical.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Mobilize and engage project communities around Manchar Lake, and strengthen village-level conservation organizations and other local stakeholders for the sustainable management of natural resources.
• Organize regular community meetings to ensure participation in planning and implementation of project activities.
• Facilitate the formation and strengthening of community-based structures, including women’s groups, for project interventions.

• Support awareness-raising, capacity-building, and conservation-related training sessions at the community level.

• Develop Terms of Partnership (ToPs), agreements, meeting minutes, and field visit reports for community-level activities.

• Prepare site-specific mobilization and engagement work plans in consultation with the Regional Head and project team.
• Collect and maintain socioeconomic data at the household and village level, and support socioeconomic impact assessments of project interventions.

• Conduct baseline and beneficiary surveys to track community participation and project outreach.
• Assist the project team in finalizing intervention sites within Manchar Lake and surrounding areas.

• Ensure smooth implementation of all project-related activities at the community level, in line with project outputs.

• Document community consultations, awareness sessions, and other field activities with timely reporting.

• Support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) requirements by providing accurate data and progress reports in hard and soft form.

Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Development Studies, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of relevant working experience with a national/international organization, preferably in community mobilization, social organization, or participatory development.
• Prior experience with WWF-Pakistan will be an asset.
• Strong command of MS Office and data management tools.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in local and English languages.
• Physically fit and willing to travel/trek in rural and semi-urban areas.
• Familiarity with the local social, cultural, and geographical context of Sindh, particularly Dadu/Manchar Lake.
